The company known today as McMinnville Manufacturing originally began operations as a sawmill in the late 1800s. We are proud to be the oldest company in operation in Warren County, Tennessee. Since the late 1800s, the company has survived the ebb and flow of flooring trends and has become one of the oldest producers of hardwood flooring in the United States.
In 1912, the company incorporated and what is believed to be the first permanent dry kilns in the country were constructed. A hardwood flooring plant was also added at this time, which still operates today, making McMinnville Manufacturing on of the oldest manufacturers of hardwood flooring.
Up until the 1960s, hardwood flooring was the basic floor covering in most homes. Beginning at that time, fashions changed and carpeting became the floor covering of choice. This was reflected in the decrease in the number of manufacturers of hardwood flooring from an estimated 300 in 1966 to and estimated 12 nationwide in 1981. From the 1980s to the present, there has been a resurgence in the demand for hardwood flooring. The driving factors in the resurgence seem to be: 1.) the increasing awareness by homeowners that carpet inherently harbors dust and dirt 2.) the beauty and durability of hardwood flooring, looking new after many decades with re-sanding and refinishing
Today, there are perhaps as many as 100 hardwood manufacturers in the United States, and management estimates that McMinnville Manufacturing ranks among the top one-third in terms of hardwood flooring sales and production.
As one of the countries oldest manufacturers, McMinnville Manufacturing Company is proud to be carrying on the traditions set forth by hard work and quality workmanship. Since the beginning, we have taken pride in producing a product revered across the country as one of the best available of its kind.
When quality matters, you can count on us. So whether it's play time with your kids, or party time with your friends, we're sure that you will enjoy your new hardwood floors for a lifetime.
